She’s a circus performer that tames fire, setting you a blaze with her mesmerizing gaze and soft smile. Watch her in wonder as she’ll awaken your dreams. The stage will haunt you as it burns the soul.
The Goal
To develop a striking portrait of a beautiful circus performer of many talents. Her most prominent ability is to tame fire. She’s mystifying with her craft. However, there’s more to her than just dancing and the gleam in her eyes. There’s a deep resilience within her and a heart beyond measure.
The Struggle
Difficulty was capturing her character. Being able to see her eyes through a gothic pop art style that’s restricted to a portrait framing required resourcefulness in figuring ways to recognize such depth. It hurts to see her cry, and that pain was held throughout developing her picture. I imagined her with a smile as a sigh of relief after a fiery performance- overcoming the depths of her past. As intimidating as it maybe her soul remains pure through all she’s endured.
The Result
The finished result became several color ways of her portrait as a show case of her persona. The fire never goes out in her eyes. No matter how dim it may seem she carries on boldly. There is no passion without rage, without joy, without pain, and its freeing to have had a chance to capture such a delicate soul for a moment- she is a dream within the nightmare. She is not to be tamed nor played with but adored and respected for the light that she brings to an otherwise dim world.
May she represent the freedom to express our fullest self despite all we face.
